Rite Aid has officially closed the doors to all its remaining stores across the United States, marking the end of the longtime pharmacy chain after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year.
As of Monday morning, the company’s website now consists of a single page directing former customers to the pharmacies where their prescriptions were transferred and providing options to access prescription and immunization records.
“All Rite Aid stores have now closed,” reads the statement on the company’s website. “We thank our loyal customers for their many years of support.”
Earlier this year, Rite Aid had announced plans to sell more than 1,200 locations nationwide as part of its bankruptcy process, but by late August, the final Pennsylvania stores had already shut down, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Founded in 1962 in Scranton under the name Thrif D Discount Center, the company rebranded to Rite Aid in 1968 and went on to become one of the country’s largest drugstore chains before its recent collapse.
